Common lines
Common themes
The defendants' statements converge around three themes:
- Action under judicial order. Each step of the operation was performed under a judicial order issued by the competent judge.
- Coordination. Action was taken in written coordination with the investigation prosecutors, superior officers, and other police units.
- Absence of force or violence. At no stage was force or violence used.
"Executing the judge's order was my legal duty. Carrying out that duty cannot be characterized as a coup attempt." — common defense sentence among the officers
Response to digital evidence
The defenses address the technical and legal insufficiency of ByLock and other digital evidence together with AYM and ECtHR case law — particularly Yalçınkaya v. Turkey (2023).
Corruption evidence resurfaces
During the defense, the evidence gathered in the corruption investigations (bank transfers, wiretap transcripts, surveillance) was placed before the court to refute the indictment's arguments. This process, despite the file closures, brought the volume of evidence onto the historical record.
Document access requests
Defense counsel requested access to the investigation files relating to the charges. Many such requests were denied on administrative grounds. See: destruction of evidence.
